I was given my wristband by a wonderful friend, lori. She is a teacher in Orland, which is the best job for her because she gets to pass her kindness around everyday! She told me that I am a very kind person too and that's why she gave me her bracelet. We have been friends for a long time. We help each other all the time, which is the kind of thing kind friends do!
One of my favorite chances to be kind happened a few months ago. My family and I were in San Francisco visiting Pier 39. I saw a little girl crying and pushing her way through the crowd. She was holding on tight to the hand of her very small brother. I could tell she was lost and very scared. She approached a few people who just ignored her. My heart started to beat fast. I had to get to her and help!! I ran through the crowd and caught up with her and told her I would not leave her until we had found her parents. Her little brother looked so frightened, but his sister was pretty brave and helped him feel better. My children helped look around and eventually we saw a mother frantically looking around calling out names. I waved her over to us and the family was reunited. I had never met this other mom before, but she and I hugged (and cried) like we had been friends for a long time. I was so happy to see the kids feel safe again. I felt lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to help this family during a scary experience. I told God "thanks" for putting me there that day.
